About The Brigham Young Podcast
The Brigham Young Podcast is an in-depth look at one of the most important and complicated figures in Mormon history. John Dehlin is joined by historian John G. Turner, author of Brigham Young: Pioneer Prophet (2012), the biography many historians consider the best account of Brigham Young’s life.
The series follows Brigham from his hardscrabble New England childhood and his conversion to Joseph Smith’s church, through Kirtland, Missouri, Nauvoo, and the succession crisis, to the exodus west, the founding of Utah, polygamy, the Utah War, the Mountain Meadows Massacre, and his decades as prophet, governor, and colonizer. New episodes are released weekly.
Fifty-five women were sealed or married to Brigham Young, and most of them are remembered only as a number in his household. A companion reference site, The Wives of Brigham Young, gives each one her own page — her dates, her family, her life as far as the record carries it, and her own words wherever they survive.
The Brigham Young Podcast is produced by Mormon Stories Podcast and the Open Stories Foundation. Every episode is also published in the main Mormon Stories feed. It follows the completed Joseph Smith Podcast, which covered Turner’s biography of Joseph Smith.
